Success for DkIT Sanctuary Secret Santa collection for Carroll Village children

21 December 2018

On the 14th December, 2018, some of the DkIT WELCOME College of Sanctuary team were delighted to meet with Robert Hyslop, Manager of Carroll Village Self-Catering Centre, Louth, to donate presents collected by the community of DkIT as part of the Sanctuary Secret Santa collection.

This collection was enthusiastically taken up throughout the DkIT college community. Gifts for girls and boys were bought, wrapped and labelled over the weeks running up to Christmas, bringing the children of Carroll Village to the forefront of everyone’s mind.

With the help of Robert, each child will receive a wrapped gift matched to their individual interests and labelled with their name and age. So much generosity was in the air that an additional donation is now organised for the Mosney Direct Provision Centre in Co. Meath, ensuring that the children of both local centres will have a DkIT Sanctuary Secret Santa gift to unwrap on Christmas morning.

The DkIT WELCOME College of Sanctuary project is working to strengthen the relationship between the institute and local refugees and asylum seekers through raising awareness of the diversity and rich cultures of refugees in the community, embedding these refugees in the community of DkIT through practical actions taken to welcome members of refugee groups and through the mutual sharing of talents and knowledge between the members of the refugee communities and the community of DkIT.

In the coming year, the Sanctuary project and the refugee communities will continue their collaboration to raise awareness of issues of social inclusion and exclusion, embed refugees in college life through practical actions and share the rich diversity of our communities in mutually beneficial ways.

So please get involved in 2019 so that refugees and asylum seekers are involved and contributing to every aspect of DkIT educational, social and cultural life.

From the DkIT WELCOME College of Sanctuary team, many thanks to the community of DkIT for your overwhelming generosity and we look forward to working with you all in the New Year. Happy Christmas!
